Speech Buddy Videos: Chap. 7-8

What I learned in the chapter seven videos is that narratives, definitions, examples, testimonials, facts, and statistics can help make a speech become believeable towards the audience. With those types of information the audience can get a better feel of what the purpose is in our speech and also that they could trust us during the entire presentation. I also learned that using the media as a source isn't always reliable. It's because media credibility is a longer process to develop so the information might not always be on point. So when we do use media sources we have to check if it is a reliable source and if it is even related to the topic and audience.

In the chapter eight videos I learned about the different patterns of organization for the main points of a speech. I never really realized there were many different patterns of organization to use for in a speech until I saw this video. It is very important to choose the right pattern that works for the speech because the way the speech is organized is how it will be presented. In the second video of chapter eight I learned about the 6 different transitions that can be used to move to each point. There are various ways to transition that I never thought of before, so I will probably bring that into consideration on my next speech.

  1. It definitely helps to know what narratives, definitions, examples, testimonials, facts, and statistics can do to help your speech and be relevant to the audience. Having Erin define each of them gave me a better understanding on how I can use it for my speech and be prepared. I always look towards media for sources, but you're right that it isn't always reliable. Always have to check on the credibility of the media source. I didn't realize there were so many patterns of organization either! It was very helpful cause each pattern was defined and they gave examples of which pattern was used for what type of speech! I'm glad for the 6 transitions they set examples and list of words to tie one thing to another. I'll probably take it into consideration for my next speech too!

  2. I agree I think narratives, definitions, examples, testimonials, facts, and statistics are effective in making your speech more credible. When you include these things it shows people that you know what you’re talking about, instead of just putting something together really quick, it shows that your researched your topic and have gained knowledge in it. I also think using the media isn’t as reliable, a lot of the times it could be because the show, radio station, or whatever media source you may be using could be biased, and only say one side or it could it even by funded by a certain organizations which are why it’s biased.
