Persuasion

We are immersed by persuasion everywhere we go & it is something we really cannot avoid. There are magazines, billboards, television commercials, shopping centers, school, work, people, and basically your whole surrounding is covered with things to persuade you. Persuade you to buy certain products, to make book a spontaneous trip, to work for certain people, to look a certain way, and etc. The media is the one who controls these aspects, and you may not even realize it. To be a critical consumer we need to be aware of what someone, or something is trying to persuade us to do. We just need to think about what we really need, and not what we want.

  1. I totally agree with your statement: We are immersed by persuasion everywhere we go and it is something we really cannot avoid. Magazines, billboards, television, commercials, shopping centers, school, work, people, and the society, as you listed are all linked towards persuasion. Media has the greatest impact on our society and around the world. Media's impact does persuade you to make certain purchases and to maintain a certain status. Reading your blog reminds me of the informative speech I recently did. I'm glad you said we need to think about what we REALLY need than what we REALLY want because those are two big differences.

  2. definitely agree with you man. we really are immersed by persausion everywhere we go and we cant avoid them. for example, all around school there are posters or even flyers persuading you to do something and you can avoid them. even friends, my friends always persuade me to do something all the time. but yea, ITS EVERYWHERE! haha but most of the time, i fall into that trap. i do get persuaded into doing something all the time. it must be the "free" stuff they always offer

  3. I completely agree with what you said about magazines, billboards, television, commercials, shopping centers, school, work, people, and society. Every single day we encounter each of these "objects" and they can tend to be extremely persuasive. Some may find it hard to ignore these but I do not. I see media as the biggest factor of persuasion. It tells you what to buy, what to wear, what not to wear, what color to dye your hair, what you should/shouldn't eat, etc. It is persuading people to buy their products, but in my eyes it is also persuading others to be like each other, not like themselves. I think that every person should think twice about all of these media is telling us and ask ourselves if we really want something.

  4. Haightetak! Well, I have to say that I strongly agree with you dude. Like everywhere you walk, whether it be to class on a Monday morning, or the mall, you see either an ad or something trying to persuade you to do something or buy something. We just all need to think of all of this and decide whether we really need all that stuff or need to take action for it. People don't even notice that people are trying to persuade others to do things or buy things, they just go for it. Many people do not notice the persuasion in ads but I really do! For example, I will be at the mall, and I will see like, I think last time I saw Paul Walker on a perfume ad. I got pretty annoyed. I mean, he is very good looking and everything, but it's like they are trying to persuade someone to buy it because of him.
That's not good, people should take action and buy stuff because it is a necessity, or so I think. :)

  5. Hello,
I agree with you entirely with the fact that persuasion is everywhere and their is no way to avoid it. Its everywhere from the tv to a billboard you see when you are driving home or to work. It is really something you cannot escape and it is a definite controlling factor in why a lot of people buy the things they do. I know I was someone who didn't really realize how persuaded i really was by advertisement when after watching a skin care commercial I went and bough the same product the next day because I was so convinced of how wonderful it was. We really are in a sea of persuasion and it is way more apparent to me now than ever after reading and discussion this chapter.
