Concepts of Chap. 6

The concepts in Chapter 6 that I found useful is of course researching the topic in which we will speak about to others. Gathering information just doesn't mean googling the topic or going to yahoo answers. We should look into books because they are a more reliable than probably any other source. Also articles in newspapers, journals, and such can be just as useful along with various ones. Even going to a organization can help bring out information that you cannot find anywhere else. With all these different sources it may give you a new outlook onto your speech. It can give you more key points, and give you a strong structured outline. Whenever I gather enough information for a speech I feel more confident on my topic which will probably make me have a better performance in the presentation. So you guys should all do the same and do some hardcore research ahha! :)

I also found the researching topics in Chapter 6 to be helpful. A few semesters ago when I was in Comm 40, I gave a speech and primarily used google to find my research. Later I learned of many more sources such as journals, databases, books, internet, etc and for my next speech I was much more prepared and had an immense amount of information. I felt a lot more confident when conducting my speech because I knew the topic extremely well. So I agree with you we should all do "hardcore research" lol because it really does pay off!

  2. I agree that books, newspaper articles, and journals are reliable sources. Although, I find that books and newspaper articles are the most reliable. It is current and easier to find than journals. It was in high school where I realized that using books and newspaper articles are the most reliable sources. Before that, no one taught me how to look up sources in a book or what page on the newspaper article to look. It was the hardest thing to do. With the help from my high school teachers, I found using sources other than the internet easier and most helpful.

  3. Hello Haightetak! You highlighted some good points here from the book. Because other sources are required rather than just internet sources alone, what will you be using? What other types of sources are you planning on using for this speech?
